Tundra Taters take on Bruce Power Nighthawks in support of Kincardine Minor Hockey

The Tundra Taters, formerly of the Adult Safe Hockey League based at York University in Toronto, have been reunited and are taking their "act on the road," stopping at smaller communities across Ontario in support of minor hockey.

To kick off their Charity Hockey Tour, the Taters will face off against the Bruce Power Nighthawks, Thursday, March 2, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine. The event runs 4-6 p.m., and the puck drops at 5 p.m.

The Tundra Taters are using this tour to raise money and awareness for minor hockey in Canada, said the team's manager, Rosie Young.

"It’s widely known that Canada’s national winter sport is expensive to play," she said. "But various factors have conspired over the past 10-15 years to make minor hockey dramatically more expensive, pricing out many families, and enrolment is suffering as a result. It’s a development that threatens the sport’s blue-collar roots, including the idea that the next Gordie Howe or Wayne Gretzky will come from backgrounds as modest as theirs were."
 
To this end, the Taters are challenging the Nighthawks to a friendly game of shinny, March 2, at the Davidson Centre. Special guests include Toronto Maple Leafs alumni Rick Vaive and from Team Canada, Kincardine’s own Kendra Fisher.

The Tundra Taters will donate $100 per goal (to a maximum of $2,000) to the Kincardine Minor Hockey Association, ear-marking the funds for programs that support families in need.
 
The event is free, and everyone is welcome to come to the arena and enjoy the game.

Fisher and Vaive will be available for pictures and autographs after the game.
