Bervie W.I. marks St. Patrick's Day, and learns about bees at March meeting

St. Patrick’s was the theme when the Bervie Women's Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday, March 1, at 10 a.m.

After the usual openings, the Roll Call was answered with a fact about Ireland or a joke. 

Elsie Schular is one of the honoured authors whose story was selected for the W.I. book, “Ordinary to Extraordinary Canada 150” – congratulations! Elsie read her contribution to us. Seven such authors were selected from Bruce County – more than 350 stories were submitted and 150 selected.  

Several members planned to attend the District Director’s meeting in Chesley, March 2. Donations were made to the Bervie United Church, the Tiverton and Kincardine fall fairs, and to recent fire victims on the Southline (house fire). 

Islay Eby and Sandra MacDonald will donate four pies and assist at the Roots of Bruce in Walkerton, April 7. Please get your program ideas to Betty Jean White and Dianne Wilson as soon as possible.

Convener Betty Anne Thompson introduced Dianne Clifford who told how she had discovered bees near her home and, subsequently, got some training and supplies, and collected them into a hive, and now looks after two hives. Everyone enjoyed sampling her honey. Betty Anne thanked Dianne and presented her with a thank you gift. 

A Victorian Tea will be held at the hall Tuesday, June 13, at 2 p.m., to celebrate Bervie W.I.’s 110th anniversary. 

The next meeting will take place at the hall, Wednesday, April 5, at 10 a.m., followed by a pot luck and annual meeting with payment of fees, slate of officers, etc.
