Show off your mis-matched socks for World Down Syndrome Day March 21

Last year, Amy Boudrais asked the Kincardine community to show off its striped, polka-dot, neon, tall, ruffled and mis-matched socks March 21, in honour of World Down Syndrome Day and the 'Lots of Socks' movement.

The response was overwhelming, with hundreds of people taking 'sock selfies' and celebrating the abilities and strengths of all members of the community.

Tuesday, March 21, find a unique pair of socks and show them off with pride. Challenge your friends, family and co-workers to wear 'Lots of Socks' and spread the message of inclusion far and wide!

To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, local businesses, schools and organizations have been invited to create fun and unique window displays filled with 'Lots of Socks.' Each window display includes a professional portrait of individuals in the community who live with Down Syndrome. 

Community Living of Kincardine and District members will vote on their favourite display to determine the winner of the 'Golden Sock' award, to be presented at the 'Lots of Socks Celebration' March 21.

This year, the theme for World Down Syndrome Day is #MyVoiceMyCommunity. All of the portraits were taken in popular community locations, including the Davidson Centre, the library, local schools, and the Kincardine trails.

Community Living of Kincardine and District is hosting a ‘Lots of Socks’ celebration March 21, at the Bruce Steakhouse. Tickets are $30 each; available at the Bruce Steakhouse, West Shore and Community Living.

There will be a sock-themed fashion show, and a live reading of the children’s book ‘Meet Will and Jake - Best Friends Forever!’, written by parents of the local ‘Homies with Extra Chromies,’ as well as an all-you-can eat taco bar and a sock selfie photo booth.
