Emergency at Kincardine water plant prompts call for conservation

An emergency situation at the Kincardine water treatment plant has prompted the municipality to call for conservation as the water is now being drawn from Huron-Kinloss.

A notice was issued by the municipality at 4 p.m. Thursday (March 23), stating the areas affected include the Town of Kincardine, Huronville and the pipeline to Inverhuron. These areas are now being fed from  the Huron-Kinloss Lakeshore Drinking Water System.

"To ensure that the Huron-Kinloss system can provide enough water for both its users and ours, we are asking all customers to conserve water as much as possible," states the notice.

"Please be aware that the water from the Huron-Kinloss groundwater wells has elevated levels of naturally-occurring sodium and fluoride. Users may also experience a difference in pressure, colour and taste at this time.

"If you have any questions or concerns, contact the water services office at 519 396-4660."

There are no details yet about what happened at the water treatment plant or when the Kincardine water service will be restored.
