Young driver charged with racing

(GODERICH, ON) - A 19-year-old Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh man has been charged with Racing, following a traffic stop that took place April 12 in Goderich. 

At 12:12 a.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Toyota Celica travelling northbound on Cove Road at a high rate of speed.
 
The officer confirmed his observations with a RADAR device and was able to clock the Celica at a speed measurement in excess of 60 km/h over the posted 30 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was subsequently charged.
 
Devon SJAARDA, 19, of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with "Race a Motor Vehicle - Excessive Speed." He has a court appearance scheduled for May 23, at the Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich. His licence has been suspended for seven days and his motor vehicle will be impounded for the week.
