North versus South Challenge Walk slated for May 1

The Southsiders need to rally their troops for the third annual North versus South Challenge Walk, slated for Monday, May 1, from 6-7:30 p.m., in Victoria Park.

The popular event was resurrected in 2015 and the past two years, the Northsiders have captured the cup.

Last year, 206 people signed in from the North side of town, while 188 signed in for the South side. The year before, the North side won with 169 walkers, just ahead of the 150 walkers from the South.

There was a tie for the top spot in the school category last year, with 47 students from each of Huron Heights Public School and Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School. Ecole Elgin Market Public School had 37, St. Anthony's School had 12, and Kincardine District Secondary School had eight.

The event is again being organized by the Huron Heights Home and School Association.

Residents are urged to walk from their homes to Victoria Park and sign in for the North or South side of the Town of Kincardine. Students also sign in, representing their schools.

If you are unsure whether you are from the North or the South, there will be maps at Victoria Park to help you out. Traditionally, the break has been at the bridges on Huron Terrace and Queen Street, and then up Durham Market Square and Russell Street.
