Bruce Power urges people to Break The Silence during Mental Health Awareness Week

For the second straight year, Bruce Power and numerous partners from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, are encouraging the community to #BreakTheSilence during Mental Health Awareness Week, May 1-5.

This year’s awareness campaign will be held Wednesday, May 3, and will be kicked off by Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of Body Break fame. May 3, Bruce Power is encouraging people to use the hashtag #BreakTheSilence on Twitter or share the Break the Silence post on the Bruce Power Facebook page.

For every use of the hashtag on Twitter and share of the Break the Silence post on Bruce Power’s Facebook page, the company will donate $1 to local mental health initiatives.

“Once again, Bruce Power is proud to lend a voice to this important cause,” said Cathy Sprague, Bruce Power executive vice-president, human resources. “Mental illness affects everyone, no matter where you live or work. It can impact us personally or indirectly through a family member, friend or co-worker. It is important we break down the barriers that still exist when it comes to talking about mental illness. It’s time we break the silence.”

Bruce Power and partners in Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties launched the #BreakTheSilence social media campaign to bring awareness to mental health issues, during last year’s Mental Health Week. Bruce Power’s employee wellness organization will also be holding a series of on-site events during Mental Health Awareness Week, including a keynote speech by Johnson and McLeod about how being physically active can also help keep you mentally healthy.
