South Bruce OPP welcomes new interim detachment commander

The South Bruce OPP is welcoming yet another interim detachment commander, as staff sergeant Mike Beatty takes over from inspector Wayne Thompson (Bruce Peninsula OPP) who had just taken over the post in November, 2014.

A member of the OPP for 27 years, Beatty arrived in South Bruce, Feb. 1, from his post as staff sergeant, operations manager, at the Essex County OPP in Windsor, the largest detachment in the province.

Beatty has worked mainly in Essex County - Belle River, Kingsville, Essex, Leamington and Tecumseh - and has served as a patrol/platoon officer; detective - major crimes; platoon sergeant; detective sergeant; and staff sergeant West Region Headquarters; before becoming staff sergeant, operations manager.

He is married to a teacher and they have three children.

Staff sergeant Dana Earley, who was temporarily assigned to Huron OPP, has returned to the South Bruce OPP detachment.

Former South Bruce OPP detachment commander, inspector Scott Smith, was assigned to develop a mental-health strategy for the OPP province-wide, and then is set to retire at the end of March.
