Dangerous driver back at it
(GODERICH, ON) - It didn't take long for this dangerous driver to get back behind the wheel and drive dangerously. Less than two weeks ago, the accused was released from court with conditions to not be in the driver's seat of a motor vehicle and to not drive a motor vehicle.
Just after 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, Huron County OPP officers observed the accused and two passengers get into a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was parked on Hamilton Street in Goderich. The vehicle quickly pulled away with the accused driving.
Officers followed the car northbound on Victoria Street and watched as it passed a line of vehicles that were stopped waiting for southbound traffic. The car sped through an active construction zone at the bridge located at the north end of Goderich. It then roared by the flagman who was trying to stop the flow of northbound traffic, and proceeded to travel into the oncoming lane of traffic.
The OPP officer attempted to stop the car but it sped away from police and was last seen travelling onto Saltford Road.
Earlier Wednesday morning, June 21, an OPP officer spotted the dangerous driver shopping in Wingham. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody without incident.
Damien YORKE-THOMAS, 23, of South Bruce has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, Fail to Comply with Recognizance, and Drive While Under Suspension. He has been held in custody for a court appearance scheduled for Friday, June 23, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
