Bethany Wilken (above) of Ripley has been named runner-up at the Ontario Miss Mid West Pageant.

The Ripley-Huron Fall Fair ambassador was among more than 25 girls competing at the pageant, held Saturday at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall. Alyy Iles of Mount Forest was crowned Queen. The theme this year was "Happy Birthday Canada."

Lucknow's Princess, Drayton Mackenzie, placed third in the competition, and received the Jordan Lynn Fawcett award.

Dignitaries on hand included Brockton councillor Chris Peabody, Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb and MPP Lisa Thompson, and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller and MPP Bill Walker.

The contestants in the Miss Mid West competition and the Princess contest were introduced, along with current Miss Mid West Jordan Scholten, and Princess Jaylynn Howard.

Impromptu questions were asked of the 10 finalists in the Miss Mid West contest, and the five semi-finalists in the Princess contest.

Following entertainment by Phil Main and Lily Mainprize-Toms, the five finalists for Miss Mid West gave their speeches, and the judges retired to make their decision. Once they returned, the awards were presented.
