RE: "Signs at the beach should say "Swim at own risk," says reader"
Those signs that where put up are 100-per-cent disgusting.
This municipality spends millions of dollars on engineering reports and then spends $100 on signs that could save somebody's life.
I have lived here all my life and for the first time, I am ashamed of my hometown. I never thought the municipality would stoop so low as to put a price on somebody's life. These signs were put up just to save a lawsuit, not a life.

There was a study done in the mid-1970s to install a breakwater on the south side that would eliminate undertow and bring sand back onto the beach.

Yes, you (Bob Richards) are right on. We have being saying the same for years now.
It is large body of water (Lake Huron) not a pool, so you have to learn to swim in our beautiful lake when the conditions are not right for swimming.

Editor's Note: Recreation director Karen Kieffer adds that education is a big part of the process.
"As the current signage appears to be unclear to some swimmers, we will look at how we can improve the signage so that it is clearer to all those who enjoy the beach, as to why this area has been designated a 'No Swimming' area," she says.
"The 'No Swimming' area is not enforced by bylaw so, again, educating people as to why this area is designated 'No Swimming' is key for people adhering to the signage. The signs are there to designate the 'No Swimming' area - they have no reference to lifeguards or safety patrols."
She says staff continues to work on education and signage for the beach area.
