Bervie Women's Institute learns about 7Acres and medical marijuana

September 8, 2017

The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the hall, Wednesday at 10 a.m., with nine members answering the Roll Call: ”How do you think medical marijuana will affect you?”

Many felt that they would never use it but were interested in hearing about it.

Details were discussed about the Grey Bruce Area Convention to be held Oct. 5 at Chepstow – several plan to attend.

President Sylvia Hasbury introduced Al Robertson of 7Acres which is the company that grows medical marijuana in the greenhouses at the Bruce Energy Centre. He gave an interesting power-point presentation on the history of 7Acres and the process of growing the medical marijuana plants. The growing operation is highly-regulated by the federal government and security is very tight. The company currently employs 100 full-time employees and has just sold its first cannabis product.

In further business, the ladies agreed that donations will be made to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and the Alzheimer's Society.

The next meeting will be at the hall, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. with the theme being culture/Muslim religion.

Thanks to Betty Jean White for providing the tasty snacks.
