The Tale of a Town - Canada visiting Kincardine this summer
The Tale of a Town - Canada is a nationwide theatre and media initiative aiming to capture the collective community memory of Canada’s main streets, one story at a time
. The group is touring the country in its
“Storymobile” (a.k.a travel trailer turned mobile recording studio) and visiting small towns and big cities, gathering oral histories
through interviews with independent business owners, local heroes, community stakeholders, and neighbourhood residents.
This national venture will culminate in a multi-platform celebration of the country’s main street culture, in commemoration of
Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
The Tale of a Town storymobile will visit downtown Kincardine, July 7-12, to gather main street stories. These local stories will be digitally mapped and added to The Tale of a Town’s storyportal (
www.theataleofatown.com). The stories will also become part of a podcast about Kincardine that will be distributed through The Walrus Magazine on-line.
The group's time in Kincardine will culminate in a community celebration, Saturday, July 18, at the Bruce County Public Library, Kincardine branch, where the podcast and storymap will be unveiled.
The Tale of a Town - Canada is created and produced by FIXT POINT, a theatre and media company based in Toronto, and is being developed in collaboration with The National Arts Centre of Canada, and funded in part by The Ontario Arts Council. The Tale of a Town - Kincardine is presented by The Sundown Players and Kincardine Tourism.
Founded in 2006 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2011, FIXT POINT's mandate is to inspire audiences to imagine change. The company is led by artistic director Lisa Marie DiLiberto and managing director Charles Ketchabaw based in Parkdale, Toronto.
