Man faces alcohol charge after crashing car into pillar in Goderich
(GODERICH, ON) -  A trip down to the beach didn't go so well for a driver of Central Huron this past weekend.

Just after 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20, Huron County OPP officers, along with paramedics from Huron County Paramedics Services, responded to a single motor collision on Cove Road.

The subsequent investigation revealed the male driver was travelling northbound on Cove Road when he lost control of his Toyota Corolla and drove into one of the concrete pillars that supports the Rotary Cove archway.

The car was heavily damaged and the driver sustained minor injuries from the crash.

While speaking with the driver, the investigating officer noted he had been drinking some alcohol so a roadside screening test was administered. The driver produced a sample of his breath into the roadside device and registered a fail.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron County OPP detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

Jonathan ATKINSON, 23, of Central Huron has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 20, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.

He received an automatic 90-day driver's licence suspension and his motor vehicle was towed and impounded.
