Girls learn about science and technology at GEMS Camp
About 20 girls took part in the annual GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) Camp, held Wednesday and Thursday during March Break, at the Bruce Power Visitors' Centre.
Led by Jillian Bjelan of Hensall, a GEMS Camper in 2008, this year's camp focused on polymers and physics.
Wednesday, the girls studied polymers and the exploration of science magic. Thursday, they conducted several experiments, using a pendulum, Newton's Beads, and science sticks, to learn about potential energy.
Assisting Bjelan were her sister, Robyn, along with Khushali Shah, 12, of Kincardine, and Diya Parikh of Port Elgin.
In the afternoon, on both days, representatives from the dance academy in Kincardine led the girls in some dancing and gave them a positive message.
