Purple Grove news
It's been a busy week in the Purple Grove Community!

The Bruce County Women's Institute Rally was held in Chesley, Thursday. Marilyn Reid, Janet Nixon, Mary Anne Kukoly, Deanna Scott and Janet Rhody attended the event. The theme was "Here's to many more," They enjoyed hearing from guest speaker Andrea Martin whose subject was "Positive Coping with Health Challenges."

The District 10 Ontario Association of Agriculture Societies (OAAS) fall meeting was held in Durham, Saturday, with representatives from many of our local fairs. Volunteer awards were presented to Charlie Marint of Hanover and Mary Fowler of Dundalk. Fair ambassadors introduced themselves and had their own program for the day. Upcoming judging schools will be on Floraculture; Roots, Grains and Vegetables; and Quilts and Crafts. Anyone wishing to participate or learn judging skills for these topics, contact your local agricultural society for information. Dates and places have not been determined as yet for these schools. Guest speaker was Leanne Bond on Fund-raising. District competitions were held for hand and machine quilts, butter tarts, youth chocolate chip cookies and youth posters, fair books and the photographic competition. Election results: provincial director Wayne Pfeffer, and district directors Ken Schlorff, Robin Gingerich, Joanne Miller, and Simon DeBoer. A most enjoyable day of socializing and reflecting on the district fairs.

The Women's Institute ladies catered dinner to the Ripley and District Lions, Wednesday, at Purple Grove Community Centre.

There were plenty of comings and goings this past week in the community!

Alexander (Sandy) McEwan, Charlene and Doug McEwan visited last week with Mary Anne Kukoly.

John and Joyce Farrell where busy with visits from Marie McIntosh of Clinton, Wednesday, and Jenny Nahwegahbow and family of Elmira this past Saturday.

Visiting over the weekend with Jim and Fran Farrell, was Jamie Alexander of Belleville. Jim and Fran had supper Saturday evening with Jamie, Crystal, Danica and Clara Farrell at Holstein, and visited Derk and Lillian Logtenberg in Goderich, Sunday afternoon.

Don and Marilyn Reid attended Don's grand-niece's wedding outside London, Saturday, and then went to Petrolia to visit Harvey and Joanne Osborne.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Rev. Glen MacPherson who was in ministry at St. Andrew’s United Church, Ripley, from 1982-1991. He died Oct. 22, at the age of 91, and the funeral was held Friday at Dundas Street United Church, Woodstock. Glen was instrumental in starting the Christmas Eve services, and his wife, Joyce, designed and helped make the banners that hang in the church sanctuary.

The St. Andrew's United Church Women's Harvest Bazaar was held Saturday, with a good turnout as many enjoyed the luncheon and shopping. It's never too early to get started buying those Christmas presents!

A reminder to the Purple Grove Women's Institute members that the next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Purple Grove Community Centre.
