Old-Tyme Maple Syrup Festival at Saugeen Bluffs March 28-29

The largest outdoor maple syrup festival in Grey and Bruce counties is almost here!

The Old-Tyme Maple Syrup Festival, hosted by the Saugeen Valley Conservation Foundation, is scheduled for March 28-29 at Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area (north of Paisley) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

This year’s maple attractions are as exciting as ever. New this year is Hydro One’s Electricity Discovery Centre. This large trailer unit contains ‘thought-provoking and interactive exhibits designed to engage and educate visitors’.

The R&R Pet Paradise Dog Sport Team is back by popular demand with some incredible dog shows that will captivate all! This magnificent team was also featured on ‘Canada’s Got Talent’.

No festival is complete, of course, without live music! This year, we will be joined by local musicians Second Line (Saturday) and Ron McManus (Sunday).

“It promises to be a great time for everyone," says Ed Moric, chairman of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Foundation. “In addition, we encourage anyone with a fiddle to join us anytime during the two days. Let’s celebrate the end of winter and have a great time!”

The Paisley Kinsmen will be serving breakfast all day, both days! Prices range from $3 to $8 depending on the appetite.

As always, there will be the old-time favourites, including horse-drawn wagon rides, crafts, demonstrations, kids' activities, the pioneer encampment, live animals, the fry wagon, fudge, pioneer popcorn and more!

“Don’t forget to come out on Sunday to participate in the maple games," says Moric. “There are plenty of opportunities for visitors of all ages to participate and win some real maple syrup!”

Admission is $8 per adult, $3 per child and free for pre-schoolers. Please note there is no ATM (automatic teller machine) at the event. Be sure to avoid parking hassles and take the bus from Paisley.

The foundation appreciates those who have helped make this event possible, including Bruce Power, Union Gas, Bruce Telecom, Bud Rier Chevrolet, Eastlink, Bayshore Broadcasting, 92.3 The Dock, Ross Young Bus Lines, the Paisley Kinsmen, Teeswater Concrete, Hope and Leader Insurance, CKNX Wingham, Square Deal Neil’s, Love’s Sweetness Maple Products, and the hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers.

“All proceeds from this event go directly to local conservation efforts,” says Moric. “It’s a commitment that both the Saugeen Valley Conservation Foundation and Saugeen Conservation take very seriously in helping to provide a healthy environment for residents and visitors alike.”
