South Bruce OPP report mischief; crash; scams; and lock-it or lose-it
POLICE INVESTIGATING MISCHIEF AT LANDFILL SITE

(CULROSS TWP, ON) - Nov. 27, at 8:08 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of mischief at the South Bruce landfill site located along Bruce County Road 6 in Culross Township.

Sometime between 5 p.m. Nov. 26, and 8 a.m. Nov. 27, two large storage bins were burned. The value of the fire damage is estimated to be more than $10,000.

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER TWO-VEHICLE CRASH

(WALKERTON, ON) - Nov. 24, at 5:21 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a two-vehicle crash on Yonge Street South in Walkerton.

Officers arrived to find that a blue Ford F150 had collided with a grey Toyota Tercel that was stopped at a traffic light. The driver of the F150, a 31-year-old South Bruce Peninsula man, was charged with careless driving. There were no injuries reported at the scene.

SCAMMERS NET $13,000

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - The South Bruce OPP is sending another warning about cons and scams, following two reports of successful scams in the detachment area. In one, $8,000 was sent to the "Canada Revenue Agency" to settle an outstanding debt, and in the second, $5,000 was sent to "Microsoft" for computer repairs. Unfortunately, both of these scams were successful and $13,000 was lost by residents of Southern Bruce County.

Tech-savvy scammers use technology to create very convincing schemes to trick you into sending them money. They will commonly use the name of a real company in order to gain your trust so that you will send money or personal information to them.

There is no magic to preventing fraud. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Remember that you can't win a contest that you didn't enter in the first place. Your best defence is to verify any unsolicited contact. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it.

Fraud is a multi-million-dollar enterprise that will only end when the scammers stop making money.

SUSPICIOUS MAN LOCATED

(PAISLEY, ON) - Nov. 14, at 5:06 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a suspicious man in Paisley.

Police have located and spoken with the man. The South Bruce OPP appreciates the assistance of the media and the public with this investigation.

"LOCK-IT OR LOSE IT" - PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - Nov. 25, at 10:27 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a theft at a residence along Fred Street in Mildmay.

Sometime between 11 p.m. Nov. 24, and 8 a.m. Nov. 25, a window was broken on a grey Kia Forte and some loose change was taken. There is no estimate on the cost of repairs to the vehicle, available at this time.

The South Bruce OPP is offering some tips from the Lock-it or Lose-it initiative that help to prevent vehicle thefts:

  • Always roll up the windows, lock the door and pocket the key.
  • If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door as well as the vehicle.
  • Always park in a well-lit area.
  • Never leave your vehicle running while it's unattended.
  • Never leave valuable objects in plain view.
  • Never leave your car keys in plain view.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
