Good things happening for trails in Kincardine, says trails association
To the Editor:

On behalf of the Kincardine Trails Association (KTA), thanks to all the generous sponsors of the Kincardine to Inverhuron Provincial Park (KIPP) Trail! Your support has brought us closer to reaching the fund-raising goal of $240,000 which will go toward the overall cost of developing the 12-kilometre trail.

Natural Gas Pipeline

Logistically, both the KIPP Trail and the imminent natural gas pipeline will be on the west side of a five-kilometre stretch of Bruce County Road 23 (B-line). The planned development stage of the trail has been somewhat delayed due to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB)'s process of selecting a natural gas provider. The OEB has now indicated that it will name the successful applicant early in 2018. We look forward to working with the new provider and hope to off-set costs of the trail development during the construction phase of the two projects.

Great Lakes Waterfront Trail

The Municipality of Kincardine and the KTA have been working with the Great Lakes Waterfront Trails (GLWT) group to develop a provincial cycling trail from the south to north municipal boundaries. To date, the GLWT has mapped and developed 2,100 kilometres of waterfront trails in Ontario and the last section to be completed is the Grand Bend to Tobermory to Espanola section.

These routes have now been mapped and wayfinding signage will be installed in the spring of 2018. As you may recall, the KIPP Trail is part of Phase 2 of the Kincardine Trails Strategy, and Phase 3 is planned to go from Inverhuron to the north municipal boundary. The great news is that the GLWT initiative will enable Phase 3 to come to fruition at no cost to the municipality. What a bonus!

The KTA looks forward to other businesses, organizations and individuals joining in to support this project which will enhance the health and lives of all the locals and for those who come to our municipality to enjoy this unique feature.

Season’s Greetings!
Kincardine Trails Association
