DANGEROUS DRIVING AND IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES LAID

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A call to police Monday morning, March 30, from a concerned citizen, led to the Huron County OPP stopping and arresting an impaired driver.

Just before 9 a.m., Huron OPP officers received a call from a witness reporting a possible impaired driver. The suspect vehicle, a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, was observed travelling southbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway in a dangerous manner.

Officers immediately began patrolling for the suspect vehicle and approximately 15 minutes later, they encountered the truck travelling eastbound on Zion Road. An officer followed the vehicle a short distance and was able to observe the driver travelling in a dangerous manner.  A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle was stopped at the corner of Zion Road and Lucknow Line.

The investigating officer spoke with the driver and was able to determine he had been drinking alcohol. Further investigation revealed the driver was displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. He was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and searched incident to arrest. Upon searching the vehicle, a prohibited weapon, commonly known as a “flick” knife, was located inside the truck.

The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 30-year-old Alexander McINTOSH of London has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, May 11.

He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

*THESE CHARGES HAVE YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
