(HURON EAST, ON) - Passing a police cruiser at nearly double the speed limit is what a 31-year-old driver of Goderich will have to answer to in traffic court come this May.
March 28, shortly before 11 a.m., a Huron County OPP officer was travelling eastbound on Huron Road near Front Road when he observed a Grand Prix pull out and overtake three vehicles, including the OPP traffic car. The OPP officer used a RADAR device to confirm the speed of the fast-moving Grand Prix and was able to measure the speed of the vehicle at 152 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
Once the Grand-Prix zoomed by the OPP police vehicle, the officer initiated a traffic stop and was able to stop the driver without incident.
Robert YOUNG, 31, of Goderich was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. He has a scheduled court appearance for May 19, at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich. He was also served with an automatic seven-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was seized for seven days.
*THESE CHARGES HAVE YET TO BE PROVEN IN COURT*
