Township taxpayers shell out just over $143,000 in council remuneration for 2017
Huron-Kinloss Township taxpayers spent just over $143,000 on council remuneration for 2017, down from $153,000 paid out the year before.
Township treasurer Jodi MacArthur presented the report at the committee-of-the-whole meeting Monday morning (March 5), outlining the total cost for council members' salaries and per diems, plus expenses.
- Mayor Mitch Twolan received a total of $31,711.79, including salary and per diems of $25,235.48, and expenses of $6,476.31
- Deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble was paid $23,881.54, including $21,973.04 in salary and per diems, and $1,908.50 in expenses
- Councillor Lillian Abbott received a total of $19,261.94, including $17,622.94 in salary and per diems, and $1,639 in expenses
- Councillor Jeff Elliott was paid $18,094.74, including $16,945.74 in salary and per diems, and $1,149 in expenses
- Councillor Jim Hanna received $14,624.34, including $13,898.34 in salary and per diems, and $726 in expenses
- Councillor Don Murray was paid $18,601.24, including $16,945.74 in salary and per diems, and $1,655.50 in expenses
- Councillor Carl Sloetjes received $16,688.01, including $15,578.06 in salary and per diems, and $1,1,09.95 in expenses
Gamble also received $1,247.20, including $880 in salary and per diems and $367.20 in expenses, for serving on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), which is paid by the SVCA; and $660 in salary and per diems for serving on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), paid by the MVCA.
In addition, Sarah Martyn received $250 for serving on the new police services board; and Joan McLaughlin received $131.03 in expenses for serving on the property standards committee; both were paid by the township.
Total remuneration for 2017 was $143,244.63.
