Province chooses prorogation instead of policy, says Huron-Bruce MPP
Wednesday at Queen's Park, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson tabled important pieces of legislation to make up for the provincial government's prorogation.
“Instead of photo ops, speeches and platitudes, Ontarians deserve a government that is prepared to actually govern,” she said, noting that by proroguing, the Liberal government stopped all the legislation tabled in the previous session. This means that any bills not passed have to be reintroduced and debated again.
Thompson introduced two important motions. The first demands a renewed focus on the spread of black-legged ticks which often carry Lyme disease. The second calls for the incorporation of indigenous literature into the high school English curriculum.
“Before the House was prorogued, my colleagues from all three parties had useful, substantive legislation tabled,” said Thompson. “Legislation that addressed concerns shared by constituents of Huron-Bruce and ridings across Ontario.
“It's a shame the Liberal government continues to put its own priorities ahead of doing right by advancing legislation that matters to Ontarians.”
