Bervie W.I. holds pot luck lunch and annual meeting
The Bervie Women's Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday at 10 a.m. It was a snowy morning – much like an April Fool’s joke!
President Sylvia Hasbury opened with a reading on April, and after the usual openings, 12 members answered the Roll Call with a joke and payment of their membership fee for the coming year.
Our volunteer hours for 2017 total 1,169 hours. Mildred Griffith gave the Sunshine report. Donations will be made to the Kincardine Food Bank and the Bervie United Church. Donations to the Lyme Disease project are nearing completion. Our Plant Sale will be at the W.I. Hall, Saturday, May 19. Secret Pal gifts were exchanged.
Everyone then enjoyed a bountiful pot luck lunch, followed by the annual meeting. The following reports were given and adopted – financial, advocacy, PRO, Sunshine, and Tweedsmuir.
Sandra MacDonald read out the new slate of officers for 2018-19 and Sylvia Hasbury inducted them. Joyce Roach is the new president. There were no changes to the bylaws. Annual donations were made to the various W.I. projects at head office.
Attendance awards went to Sylvia Hasbury, Mildred Griffith and Diane Wilson. Betty Jean White encouraged everyone to use biodegradable garbage bags (large and small) – there is too much plastic in our landfills.
Diane Wilson presented a pot of flowers to past-president Sylvia Hasbury.
The next meeting is Wednesday, May 2, at 10 a.m., at the W.I. Hall.
