Erie Belle continues as a family-run business with red-seal chef in charge
It's business as usual at the Erie Belle on Harbour Street in Kincardine, with a new family at the helm.
Chuck Edey and his son, Jon, of Kincardine have taken over the famous fish-and-chip eatery, run by Ron Boucher and his family, and business partner, Dana Clampitt, for the past 35 years.
Patrons can enjoy the same Kincardine fish and chips, but the Edeys have hired red-seal chef Alex Lussier to set up the kitchen and spruce up the menu.
“We took over the business a month ago and our vision for the place has expanded,” said Chuck. “As a result, we needed professional help. We hired Lussier who was at the Cow Bell, and he started work here Monday (April 23). He will train the staff and upscale our menu, offering some wonderful alternative items.”
Lussier will be the general manager and Jon will apprentice under him, said Chuck. “What we want is consistent quality of product, with options for appetizers and other menu items. We plan to have a new menu available in the next week or two.”
With respect to staffing, there will be a
Job Fair at the Erie Belle, Monday, April 30, from 4-7 p.m. Summer positions available include wait staff, bartenders, cooks, prep cook, dishwasher and cash hostess.
The bar has been revitalized, and three televisions are being installed.
The Edeys plan to extend the hours of the restaurant in the summer time. Currently, the restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday to Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Beginning May 24, the hours will be 11 a.m to 10 p.m. every day.
“The Erie Belle has been a staple in Kincardine for 40 years,” said Chuck, “and we don't want that to change.”
