DRIVER FACING SEVERAL CHARGES
(GODERICH, ON) – A 68-year-old Goderich man is facing several charges including an Over 80 charge after he was stopped by police April 16.
At approximately 3 p.m., Huron County OPP officers received information about a possible impaired driver who was about to leave a residence on Regent Street in Goderich. Officers arrived in the area and within a few minutes they observed the suspect vehicle, a Dodge Caravan travelling west on Regent Street. The investigating officer also noticed the validation sticker on the rear licence plate had expired.
A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver, the officer noted je had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was immediately placed under arrest for Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
Officers also determined through the course of their investigation, that the vehicle was not insured and further they learned the driver held an expired driver’s licence.
As a result, 68-year-old Howard GARDINER of Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance and Drive Motor Vehicle No Validation on Plate. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, May 4. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
RACING CHARGE LAID
(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) - A 48-year-old Huron-Kinloss woman will be without her driver’s licence for the week after she was stopped for speeding April 17.
Just before 3:30 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer was conducting RADAR patrols on Amberley Road near Hall’s Hill Line when a speeding westbound Chevrolet Cobalt caught the officer’s attention.
The officer confirmed his observations with a RADAR device and measured the speed of the racing Cobalt at 131 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The driver was stopped, charged and served with an automatic seven-day driver’s licence suspension. In addition, her vehicle was seized for seven days.
Sherry GATEMAN, 48, of Huron-Kinloss has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. She has a scheduled court appearance for June 16, at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich.
