Restorative Care Unit in Chesley to remain open until June
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s board of directors has extended operation of the Restorative Care Unit in Chesley until June 27, to allow study of a recently-completed restorative care capacity assessment for the Grey-Bruce region.
A press release from the health centre states that late last month, the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) requested that the health centre sign a ‘Balanced Budget Waiver’ for the organization’s 2015‐2016 Hospital Service Accountability Agreement to operate in a deficit while the regional requirements for the service are analyzed.
By agreeing to accept the waiver, the health centre will fund the continuation of the Restorative Care Unit using capital reserves.
“We are working co-operatively with the LHIN and our stakeholders (Community Care Access Centre, Grey Bruce Health Services and Hanover and District Hospital) to develop a sustainable regional strategy for restorative care services,” says Paul Rosebush, health centre president and chief executive officer. “We hope to arrive at a mutually-agreeable plan as soon as possible in the interest of our patients and staff.”
The health centre announced in December, 2014, that the unit would close on May 2 as it is unfunded, costing the organization approximately $800,000 annually to run.
