The Kincardine District Secondary School Clothing Drive was a great success, generating more than 40 large bags full of clothes which were shared within the school, the Clothes Hamper downtown, throughout the Bluewater District School Board, and donated to a large community exchange.
This campaign ran March 23-27 at KDSS in response to the extreme cold weather warnings in the area this past winter.
"We hoped to provide those in need with warm clothing," said organizer Eliza Bumba. "Main interests were in collecting jackets, boots, hats, mittens, scarves, and all other regular clothing items, such as jeans, sweatshirts, leggings, etc., accepting both adult's and children’s clothing."
The students and community at large responded with incredible generosity, said Bumba, including several large donations of hand-knit goods that were sent to the northern end of the school board area, early in the campaign, while the cold weather advisories were still in effect.
"Last year, the clothing exchange in Shallow Lake was accessed by more than 400 residents of Bruce and Grey counties," said Bumba. "We are happy to support this initiative, to help those in need in Shallow Lake this spring."
Staff co-ordinators for the Clothing Drive were Michelle McIver, Dawn MacKay and Nancy Rix.
