Kincardine council has recognized the Kincardine Montgomery Ford Midget girls rep. hockey team for winning the 2015 Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) midget "C" provincial championship.

At the council meeting Wednesday night (May 6), mayor Anne Eadie presented plaques to each player and the coaching staff.

Head coach Gord Kemp held up the championship banner and said it is quite an honour to win at the provincial level.

"We are proud of all 17 of these players," he said. "They played a 57-game season, with 40 wins, 14 losses and three ties. They had 186 goals for and 86 against, and 20 shut-outs. Then they put everything they had into that final game April 12 at 3 p.m., and they brought home the gold medal.

"They were amazing, and we are so proud of them."

"As a former sports coach, I know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to just reach all-Ontario, let alone win," said Eadie. "Congratulations; the community is very proud of you."
