Get Real: Celebrating the wedding of our grown-up little girl
As you're reading this, David and I are getting ready to watch our eldest get married, Saturday, June 1, at the Four Winds Barn in Brussels.

Our daughter, Rebecca, is marrying the nerd-of-her-life, Chris, and while we are thrilled to see her so happy and excited to venture into this new chapter in her life, we can't but think of the little girl she was not so long ago.

She was born Feb. 9, 1993, in Woodstock hospital – our first child, and according to her, our first experiment. Which is entirely accurate, given that you get handed a child with no manual or rule book, other than what your friends and family tell you – and that's often advice you can take or leave.

We moved to Kincardine in July, 1995, when Rebecca was just two years old. She went to elementary school at Elgin Market and then Huron Heights, on to Kincardine District Secondary School, and then to Fanshawe College in London where she graduated as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in 2014.

Through the years, she took piano lessons, then took up the flute, was part of numerous clubs and managed to scrape her way through Grade 12. When she was in Grade 10, she attended a MedQUEST Camp and discovered a love for the medical field which is why she went to Fanshawe and became an RPN.

She worked in London for a year, then moved back home, attempted to find full-time work, and then discovered living at home wasn't working out. So, she moved back to London, and shortly after, met Chris, and the rest, as they say, is history.

They fell in love, found joy in their mutual nerdiness, and in December, 2017, he asked her to marry him. They set the date, worked together with their friends and family to find the perfect venue, caterer, photographer, attendants, music, wedding attire, and all the other trappings that make up a wedding.

Which is what we are celebrating tomorrow, June 1, as we say goodbye to our little girl, welcome another son, and drink copious amounts of wine.

Ah, life in the fast lane!
