Volunteers upset with whoever stole plants from Geddes Park
To the Editor:

The following is an open letter to a plant thief:

The Labyrinth Peace Garden in the Geddes Environmental Park, Kincardine, is a public garden, maintained by volunteers, who work to provide a space for quiet, meditative enjoyment for the pleasure of all.

The garden maintenance is provided by a dedicated group of people who plant, weed, and prune, as needed, throughout the entire growing season as they have for almost two decades since its conception.  Plants for the garden are paid for through donations, as well as from the pockets of the volunteers.

Last week, sometime between Wednesday, May 29, and Friday, May 31, an inconsiderate, greedy thief (or group of thieves) entered the garden and took a sufficiently-large number of plants to fill a large flower bed. Annuals, such as impatiens, zinnias, and marigolds (some just planted May 29), along with perennials, including Asiatic lilies, primula, a variety of different hostas, astilbe, and a Double Play Spirea (a plant on its own, worth $30), were all taken.

Trust me! These volunteers are dedicated and remember very well what varieties they have planted - both in quantity as well as location. A complete list of stolen plants has been completed.

Wherever the thief has planted these is hopefully in a very private location that he/she, alone, can enjoy without benefit of public display or the theft will be discovered.

Labyrinth volunteers have discerning eyes and are VERY dismayed at their efforts going to waste through the actions of a single greedy effort. Eyes are open!

Sincerely,
Peter Tucker
Kincardine
