Community Matters: Celebrate summer with Bruce Power!

Like you, we have been looking forward to a beautiful Bruce County summer after a long winter and spring.

Now that it’s finally here, it’s time to enjoy all the fantastic weather, events, beaches, trails, and patios for which our area is so well-known. Summer is a busy time at Bruce Power as we power the province’s air conditioners while producing zero carbon emissions, plus welcoming thousands of people to our annual Block Party, and at our visitors’ centre for a bus tour.

The Bruce Power Block Party is one of the premiere events on the area’s summer social calendar. It will be held July 20 at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This family-friendly, carnival-themed celebration of summer will feature free shows by Zacada Circus at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Davidson Centre. There will also be public swimming from noon-1 p.m., 2-3 p.m., and 4-5 p.m. at the pool. Both the circus and swimming have limited space due to the building’s capacity, so arrive early!

The free midway rides and inflatables will also be a huge hit with all ages, and you won’t go hungry with the free carnival snacks starting at noon!

All this fun leads us to one of the area’s most spectacular displays of fireworks, which will be held at the Kincardine Harbour at dusk.

Due to the size of the Block Party, there will be no parking at the Davidson Centre. We have five parking locations in Kincardine and shuttle buses will be running constantly. Parking is available at Bruce Power’s MCR Training Facility on Sutton Street, Huron Heights Public School and Bruce Power’s Kincardine Training Centre on Russell Street, the Kincardine Curling Club on Penetangore Row, and Kincardine District Secondary School on Durham Street.

TOUR THE BRUCE POWER SITE

Our wildly-popular Summer Bus Tour Program began in June and expands to three tours per day, seven days a week in July and August (except the statutory holiday Aug. 5), with the final tours being held Saturday, Aug. 31.

The hour-long tours begin at the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre (3394 Bruce County Road 20, northwest of Tiverton), with a short video. Participants then board the bus for a tour of the world’s largest operating nuclear site, where you’ll learn about how we provide Ontario with 30 per cent of its electricity, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s fun and educational for all ages!
