As a tourist destination, Kincardine can do much better
To the Editor:
I was watching the Kincardine council meeting Monday night (Aug. 12), and I have to say that I, too, have recently complained to the Kincardine parks department about the safety concerns at the pier where there are two good-sized holes, and about the unkempt condition of for the washrooms.
As to the “general announcement” portion at the end of the council meeting, I have long watched Kincardine council in action, and the general announcements are not only for good news stories. Sure, there may be another forum to bring this matter up (i.e: notice of motion), but I did not feel that councillor Gerry Glover was bringing this forward for debate but from a point of concern.
As he stated, the damage at the pier was apparently fixed but the fix was substandard and he was drawing attention to the shoddy work and validating concerns he received. I am supportive of the comments from Mr. Glover that night.
He's right. Beach maintenance has gotten away from us, and while I understand about water levels and debris, it is possible to clean that mess up daily or at least on a more regular basis.
Our first impression to guests and visitors shouldn't be dirty washrooms, a beach with washed up debris, and holes in the pier. We are capable of so much more and, as a tourist destination, we can surely do much better.
Thanks to Mr. Glover for keeping issues at the forefront. I hope to see more attention and improvements next year!
Thank you, Liz, for your reporting. Keep up the good work!
