Appointments needed to have blood work done in Kincardine

Appointments needed to have blood work done in Kincardine
Beginning Monday (June 1), you will have to make an appointment to have blood work done at the Hawthorne Medical Clinic in Kincardine.

A press release, issued Thursday by the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (with hospitals in Kincardine, Walkerton, Chesley and Durham), states that community laboratory collections at the Kincardine and Walkerton sites will now require an appointment.

This measure is being implemented to ensure proper physical-distancing for patient safety, states the release.

In response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), community lab collections at the Chesley and Durham sites have been temporarily suspended to free up staffing resources to support active screening stations and the COVID-19 Assessment Centre.

“Until this week, our volumes for community lab collections in Kincardine and Walkerton have been very manageable,” says Angela Stanley, vice-president of clinical services and chief nursing executive.

“However, this week we have seen a significant spike in volumes, which has created challenges with physical-distancing for patients, and lengthy wait times. Operating by appointment will provide a better and safer patient experience.”

From now through Friday (May 29), the number of patients for community lab collections in Kincardine and Walkerton will be limited.

To book an appointment for next week and beyond, call patient registration, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the site you wish to attend:

  • Kincardine - 519-396-3331 - community lab collections located in the Hawthorne Medical Clinic, across the parking lot from the hospital
  • Walkerton - 519-881-1220 - community lab collections located in the Ambulatory Care/Specialists Clinic hallway – First Floor

At this time, community lab collections at the Chesley and Durham sites remain temporarily closed. Planning is under way to resume service in the coming weeks.
