Readers want traffic lights at Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue, but they are gone

Readers want traffic lights at Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue, but they are gone
A number of people responded to Kincardine council's decision to not bother with traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue.

Ironically, the lights were removed Thursday morning, because the construction on Highway 9 is completed.

The traffic lights have been removed from the intersection of Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue

RE: "Kincardine has no interest in traffic lights at Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue"

I think it would be a good idea to leave the traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue. I use that intersection almost daily and before the lights, I had seen so many close-calls of people unsure of who has the right-of-way and driving way too fast heading for the open road out of town.

Now that most people have settled into the idea of having lights there, I think there will be potential for chaos once they are removed.

Maybe council should take the time to consider this matter more seriously before they dismiss it so quickly.

Stop lights should be installed at the bowling alley corner before someone gets hurt.

Council should act on this. A lot of people think the same way.

To the Editor:

First of all, since when is it up to Kincardine council where lights will be installed on any highway? Most of us in our neighbourhood of Willow West want the lights, and years ago, called council and the South Bruce OPP to ask to have them put in.

I was told then, by the police and council, that they had nothing to do with the traffic lights. Then I contacted the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the ministry did a  “study” and deemed them not required.

Comments like "they slow me down," and "I blew right through a red light," only make one think that maybe you two should not be driving. And as far as being a pain in the butt, how is saving lives by being more cautious, a pain I the butt?

There are many close-calls and there have been many accidents at that corner. It is dangerous, and maybe one day you should approach it with your eyes open and have a look.

I agree with Randy (Kincardine councillor Randy Roppel).

Lights in Tiverton would be great. That corner is horrible!
