Kincardine native and NHL referee Kevin Pollock injured during playoffs

NHL referee Kevin Pollock (above) will miss the remainder of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs after being struck in the face with a shot by Hurricanes defenceman Jaccob Slavin, Saturday.

Pollock suffered a broken jaw on the play.

The 50-year-old Pollock, originally from Kincardine, has been an NHL referee since the 1999-2000 season. He has officiated some important games and events over his career, including the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and the 2015 and 2017 Stanley Cup finals.

He has been the most senior referee in the NHL “bubble” in terms of playoff games he has officiated. Game 3 between Carolina and Boston was his 203rd playoff game.

Pollock is wished a speedy recovery, with hopes that he will be back on the ice for the start of the 2020-21 season.
